Welcome To African Grassroots
African Grassroots is a Kenyan registered NGO working in the Western part of Kenya mostly in Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga and Uasin Gishu counties. The work of African Grassroots is founded on innovation, respect for human dignity and sustainable pursuit of equity and social justice. It focuses on people living in extreme poverty in rural settings and works under three pillars:
Pillars
Economic Empowerment
African Grassroots works on supporting young women to acquire at least one vocational skill in the area of tailoring, cooking and hair dressing through apprenticeship. It also offers small traders financial literacy skills to enable them to explore financial opportunities. The programs desired this include running a business accelerator to mentor youth and women in business, training women in value addition in different areas, establishing small cottage industries and mobilizing community self-help groups to work on joint income generating activities.
Human Rights
African Grassroots is deeply committed to promoting human rights and empowering marginalized communities, particularly focusing on young women. We firmly believe that upholding fundamental human rights is crucial for building equitable societies. Our initiatives empower young women through apprenticeships in tailoring, cooking, and hairdressing, creating economic opportunities and enabling informed life choices.
We also equip small traders with financial literacy skills, run business accelerators, and promote value addition.
Governance
African Grassroots believes that transparency and accountability in delivery of public service is essential in improving the lives of people living in rural areas. Under this theme, the organization conducts civic education for communities with focus on devolution, citizen participation and leadership. The organization works with community social audit and accountability groups and holds community leadership training sessions for young people in order to nurture them for leadership in different levels of the community.
